Environmental values and customer-perceived value in industrial supplier relationships

2017

This study addresses a gap in the research on supply channel management by integrating environmental values and value creation in the context of buyer-supplier relationships. This study has two objectives: (i) to explore the environmental values structure of industrial customers, and (ii) to test the effect of environmental values on overall value perceptions. The effect of customer's environmental values on the supplier's environmental image and customer-perceived value is tested with structural equation modeling using the PLS method. The empirical analysis is based on a global sample of industrial companies that have a high impact on the environment (n = 121). Key findings of this study a…

Environmental values in industrial marketing relationships

2017

Concern for the natural environment has become an issue that virtually all companies have to address. Literature suggests that an environmentally oriented marketing strategy, such as an environmental brand image, yields competitive advantage for the supplier in the form of improved customer outcomes and financial performance. At the same time, key barriers to environmental purchasing are found to be related to higher perceived cost and lack of environmental interest among purchasing professionals. In addition, research has repeatedly revealed a gap between customers’ environmental values and attitudes and their manifestation in purchasing behavior. This dissertation contributes to the inter…

Potential for cascading impacts of environmental change and policy on indigenous culture.

2022

AbstractGlobal environmental and societal changes threaten the cultures of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLC). Despite the importance of IPLC worldviews and knowledge to sustaining human well-being and biodiversity, risks to these cultural resources are commonly neglected in environmental governance, in part because impacts can be indirect and therefore difficult to evaluate. Here, we investigate the connectivity of values associated with the relationship Ngātiwai (a New Zealand Māori tribe) have with their environment. We show that mapping the architecture of values-environment relationships enables assessment of how deep into culture the impacts of environmental change or pol…

The effect of (negative) emotion on pro-environmental behavior : an application of the theory of planned behavior

2016

With climate change becoming ever-present as a huge environmental issue for the modern era to address, pro-environmental behavior (PEB) is becoming an increasingly relevant area. There seems to be a divergence between how different actors try and encourage PEB when using emotion as the motivational tool. Therefore, the current study aimed to explore this effect of (negative) emotion on decision making. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was used as the theoretical framework, with the primary research aim testing whether emotion affects the theory, and if this is a direct effect on intentions. Within the existing research, environmental values are also found to be potentially linked with t…

Self and Nature: Parental Socialization, Self-Esteem, and Environmental Values in Spanish Adolescents

2020

Emergent research seriously questions the use of parental strictness as the best parenting strategy in all cultural contexts. Moreover, previous research on environmental socialization offers inconsistent findings about which specific parenting practices would be the most appropriate for environmental socialization. The present paper aims to examine parents&rsquo

Looking for Feminist Pragmatist Roots of Degrowth Ideas: Jane Addams, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Caroline Bartlett Crane

2022

The aim of the paper is a search of feminist pragmatist roots of degrowth ideas. The starting point is the question of whether in views of the members of the Progressive Movement the idea of progress has always implied the economic (and industrial) growth. Searching for counter-examples leads me to ideas of ecofeminism and feminist critics of capitalism in the previous turn of the centuries. The ideas of ecofeminism were developed by women associated with the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago and the social settlement Hull House. They observed a link between the exploitation of subordinate members of a society and the degradation of nature in Western cultural values. The …
